A screen shot of a video resource.Teachers TV is a digital TV channel from the UK, directed at adults who work in (K-12) schools, including teachers, principals, teacher assistants and professional learning leaders.

It includes a collection of over 2000 short videos covering a broad range of topics; behaviour management, literacy and numeracy; ICT and interactive whiteboards, to name just a few.

Here is the link http://www.teachers.tv/video

The collection of videos can be browsed by school sector, learning area or the role that people have in a school. You can also search by key word e.g. a key word search for “interactive whiteboard” returns a list of videos that show teachers using their IWB in their classrooms for purposes as diverse as exploring abstract concepts in mathematics to learning about the Tudors in history.

I think these videos provide a wonderful opportunity to see other teachers ‘in action’ in their classrooms and thus provide a common focus for other teachers to talk about the strategies, classroom management and pedagogy they see modelled, in a very non-threatening way. Each video also comes with downloadable resources to support provide further information, links and resources to support the video content.

It is well worth registering with the site (free) so that you can download the video before sharing it with colleagues. This avoids the stopping and starting that often happens as videos are played ‘live’ from the web. The ‘Help’ tab at the top of the page is comprehensive and well written check it out if you have any questions.

So … find a video that fits with your current professional learning need … download it to the ‘D’ drive of your teacher laptop … watch/share/discuss at your leisure. :-)
